Kit Digital 2025: Final Rounds and How to Leverage Them
The clock is ticking
Kit Digital, Spain’s flagship digitalization program funded by Next Generation EU, is entering its final rounds. If you have not applied for your voucher, 2025 is the last real window. The total program budget is EUR 3.067 billion, and a significant portion has already been allocated.
This program is one of the largest SME digitalization initiatives in Europe. If your company operates in Spain (even if headquartered elsewhere), you may be eligible. Here is what you need to know.
Current status by segment
As of January 2025:
Segment I (10-49 employees). Voucher up to EUR 12,000. Open call. This segment has the most available budget and the lowest relative application rate. If your company is in this range, there is funding.
Segment II (3-9 employees). Voucher up to EUR 6,000. Open call. High demand but funds still available.
Segment III (0-2 employees and freelancers). Voucher up to EUR 2,000. Open call. Highest number of applications but lowest individual amount.
Segment IV (50-249 employees). Voucher up to EUR 25,000. Most recent call. Opened in 2024 with significant available budget. Under-applied because many mid-sized companies do not know they are eligible.
Segment V (250+ employees). Voucher up to EUR 29,000. Open since late 2024. The newest segment with the most available per-capita budget.
The solution categories that matter
Kit Digital covers 12 digital solution categories. Not all deliver equal real-world value. Based on our experience, these generate measurable impact:
Process management (up to EUR 6,000 for Segment I). ERP or business management system implementation. If you still manage your company with spreadsheets, this is step one. Holded, Odoo, or a vertical ERP are viable options within the budget.
Business Intelligence and analytics (up to EUR 4,000). Dashboards, automated reporting, data visualization. Not “install Tableau.” It means configuring a system that gives you visibility into key metrics without depending on an analyst.
Artificial Intelligence (up to EUR 6,000 for Segment I). This is the new category added in 2024. It covers generative AI implementation, AI chatbots, and AI-based automation. It has the highest ROI potential but also requires the most care in provider selection.
Cybersecurity (up to EUR 6,000). Enterprise antivirus, firewall, automated backup, and security training. Not glamorous, but a ransomware attack that stops your company for 3 days costs more than any security investment.
Secure communications (up to EUR 6,000). Virtual PBX, corporate video calls, business chat. If your team uses personal WhatsApp for work communications, this is an upgrade with real impact.
How to maximize the voucher
Five recommendations based on what we have seen work.
Combine categories. You do not have to spend the entire voucher on one category. A Segment I company can use EUR 6,000 on AI and EUR 6,000 on process management. The combination of an ERP with an AI agent that automates data entry is more powerful than either alone.
Choose your provider before applying. The voucher is granted for work with a registered Agente Digitalizador (Digital Agent). Search for your provider in the Red.es catalog before starting the application. Not all agents offer the same categories or quality.
Do not choose by price. The voucher covers the cost. Your job is to choose the provider that will deliver the best result, not the cheapest one (the voucher pays either way). Ask about use cases similar to yours, request references, and confirm the provider has experience in your sector.
Apply as soon as possible. Budget is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not wait until the last month. The application process is reasonably fast (most applications resolve in 2-4 weeks), but the project execution window is 6 months from the grant date.
Document your starting point. Kit Digital requires the Digital Agent to document the company’s initial state and the implementation result. But having your own numbers (time per task, errors, current costs) helps you negotiate a better scope with the provider and demonstrate ROI afterward.
What Kit Digital does not cover
Worth knowing what is excluded:
- Hardware (computers, servers, devices)
- Software licenses not part of the implemented solution
- Generic training not linked to the solution
- Solutions already implemented before the application
- Recurring costs beyond the 12 months of service included
The 12 months of included service are key. After that period, the company assumes maintenance and license costs. Make sure the provider clearly explains what the solution will cost from month 13 onward.
Why this matters for non-Spanish companies
If your company has a fiscal domicile in Spain and is registered with Spanish Social Security, you are eligible regardless of where your parent company is headquartered. We have seen subsidiaries of German, French, and UK companies successfully apply.
The program is also a useful benchmark for similar EU initiatives. France’s “France Num,” Italy’s “Transizione 4.0,” and Germany’s “Digital Jetzt” follow similar models. Understanding how Kit Digital works gives you a template for accessing digitalization funds across Europe.
Our recommendation
If you meet the requirements (company with fiscal domicile in Spain, up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, not a company in crisis), applying for Kit Digital is a straightforward decision. It is grant money for digitalizing processes you probably need to digitalize anyway.
Where it is worth thinking is which categories to apply for. Our recommendation for SMEs who are not sure where to start: begin with process management if you lack an ERP, or with AI if you already have one. AI applied to unstructured data (emails, documents, communications) is where we see the greatest impact in companies with 10-50 employees.
